Treasured Places

I participate in the #52tagshannemade (with Anne Brooke, https://www.annebrooke.co.uk/)

For the 14th week, the theme was: Pocket, favorite place, and treasures. I chose Quebec, Canada.

A few years ago we went for a one-month trip backpacking with my husband. We didn't have too much space to bring "treasures" other than great memories and digital pictures.  It's a beautiful country and we met lovely people.

We hope we'll go again to discover other regions.

This tag gave me another idea, to make a handmade book about the different places where I have been or lived, that marked an important time in my life. I have already lived in about 32 places without counting house-sitting while traveling.

Stitching meditation: Interbeing

Interbeing

The suggested replacement word for the verb "to be," coined by Vietnamese Buddhist Monk and scholar Thich Nhat Hanh. It means to inter-dependently co-exist. The meaning of interbeing recognizes the dependence of any one person or thing as to all other people and objects.
Not only is no man an island, but rather his interbeing is shared with the plants and animals he eats, the people who make his clothes and food, the people who populate his home, country and the very world he perceives, the insects that pollinate the trees that yield his fruit, shade him from the sun and provide lumber for his house.

I wanted to use samples of dyeing that I didn't know what to do with. All different tries of indigo, madder, and many other leaves, and plants I made during the last few years.
The idea is to work only with a neutral linen thread. Maybe it'll change...

Running stitches. Straight lines or circles, maybe spiral.

It's my first big piece, right now is 24'' x 24'' (60 cm x 60 cm), but I think I'll still adding small pieces.

Normally, I don't use an embroidery hoop for stitching meditation, but because of the size of this piece, I find that working with a hoop is easier.

Starting with a spiral from the center out...

The spiral keeps connecting all the different pieces.

Sunbonnet

Very different from my other work, but I find doing this is quite meditative; no need to think or make a decision about colors or composition, just following the pattern...

My first redwork. I decided to continue on natural linen.
Sunbonnet "Swing." I have 11 more to go!

"Honoring Earth" 4, "Forest"- "Honorer la Terre", 4: "Forêt"

“Honoring Earth,” 4: 'Forest' (42cm x 30cm; 16 1/2" x 11 1/2")

eco-dyed and eco-printed on different kinds of cotton and wool: eucalyptus, indigo, Birch's leaves, iron bath (after dyeing) and watercolors. Maybe there is some dyeing with tea or oak acorn; I'm sorry, but since they are dyed fabrics made a long time ago, I don't have all the information about.

Slow stitching with embroidery thread and linen (natural and eco-dyed). Ceramic beads appliqued.

The Moon and the trees- La Lune et les arbres

A new little artist's book (18 cm x 13 cm; 7" x 5"), indigo dyed and watercolor on cotton paper from a reused notebook. Some eco-dyed ribbons and linen threads.
I'm always enchanted by the full moon and Nature, so showing both together, it was just a pleasure.

Slow stitching to applique the leaves, all from my gardens (from the south and the north).

Medicine Bags and Amulets Bags - Pochettes-médecine et d'amulettes

I like small bags, and I have many myself, so I started doing some with the idea of making medicine bags or amulet bags.
Made with wool and dyed fabrics, hand-spun wool, some purchased or recycled fabrics, charms and special decorations added.
