Handmade paper

 Handmade paper

I'm making paper again: printer paper, daffodil's flower, and nettle's leaves. Then, I added color with beetroot and turmeric. Maybe they will become cards or handmade books.

Treasured Places

I participate in the #52tagshannemade (with Anne Brooke, https://www.annebrooke.co.uk/)

For the 14th week, the theme was: Pocket, favorite place, and treasures. I chose Quebec, Canada.

A few years ago we went for a one-month trip backpacking with my husband. We didn't have too much space to bring "treasures" other than great memories and digital pictures.  It's a beautiful country and we met lovely people.

We hope we'll go again to discover other regions.

This tag gave me another idea, to make a handmade book about the different places where I have been or lived, that marked an important time in my life. I have already lived in about 32 places without counting house-sitting while traveling.

Stitching meditation: Interbeing

Interbeing

The suggested replacement word for the verb "to be," coined by Vietnamese Buddhist Monk and scholar Thich Nhat Hanh. It means to inter-dependently co-exist. The meaning of interbeing recognizes the dependence of any one person or thing as to all other people and objects.
Not only is no man an island, but rather his interbeing is shared with the plants and animals he eats, the people who make his clothes and food, the people who populate his home, country and the very world he perceives, the insects that pollinate the trees that yield his fruit, shade him from the sun and provide lumber for his house.

I wanted to use samples of dyeing that I didn't know what to do with. All different tries of indigo, madder, and many other leaves, and plants I made during the last few years.
The idea is to work only with a neutral linen thread. Maybe it'll change...

Running stitches. Straight lines or circles, maybe spiral.

It's my first big piece, right now is 24'' x 24'' (60 cm x 60 cm), but I think I'll still adding small pieces.

Normally, I don't use an embroidery hoop for stitching meditation, but because of the size of this piece, I find that working with a hoop is easier.

Starting with a spiral from the center out...

The spiral keeps connecting all the different pieces.

The Fairies' Labyrinth

A fairytale, a true story, it's up to you. Nothing is impossible for those who believe in it.

Handspun and eco-dyed yarns. I had woven the mandala, and I decided to use this picture as a cover for my fairytale, "The Fairies Labyrinth."

Here, you can read the story for free:

Experimenting with natural dyeing - Expérimenter avec les teintures naturelles

1/10/2018
While cleaning and arranging a forgotten drawer, I found a few boxes with small pockets with flowers, seeds, and bark to use as incense. I decided to try them for dyeing. So, I make small cotton bags and mordanted them with Symplocos.

I put the seeds-bark-flowers inside and put to boil in different jars for 1 hour, then leaving it to cool down.
A 2 ° saucepan, pots N ° 9-15, I left the fabric bags in pots over the night, before heating and boiling the water for 1 hour.

Here are the dyed pouches.
Voici les pochettes teintées.

1 - 8 samples

9 - 15 samples
I don't know exactly what I'm going to make with these samples, maybe a fabric book. I'll see later.

Je ne sais pas exactement ce que je vais faire avec ces échantillons, peut-être un livre de tissu. Je verrai plus tard.
