Interbeing

The suggested replacement word for the verb "to be," coined by Vietnamese Buddhist Monk and scholar Thich Nhat Hanh. It means to inter-dependently co-exist. The meaning of interbeing recognizes the dependence of any one person or thing as to all other people and objects.

Not only is no man an island, but rather his interbeing is shared with the plants and animals he eats, the people who make his clothes and food, the people who populate his home, country and the very world he perceives, the insects that pollinate the trees that yield his fruit, shade him from the sun and provide lumber for his house.

I wanted to use samples of dyeing that I didn't know what to do with. All different tries of indigo, madder, and many other leaves, and plants I made during the last few years.

The idea is to work only with a neutral linen thread. Maybe it'll change...

Running stitches. Straight lines or circles, maybe spiral.

It's my first big piece, right now is 24'' x 24'' (60 cm x 60 cm), but I think I'll still adding small pieces. 

Normally, I don't use an embroidery hoop for stitching meditation, but because of the size of this piece, I find that working with a hoop is easier.

The spiral keeps connecting all the different pieces.

solar dyeing - teinture solaire

There is a great chance that these colors will be impermanent, but I enjoy watching them here and now.

Il y a de grandes chances que ces couleurs soient impermanentes, mais je profite en les regardant ici et maintenant.

2 different kind of cotton, solar dyeing: 3 days in water with onions. Wisteria's flower and leaves, eucalyptus bark, metal tongs. 

 

 2 types de coton différents, teinture solaire: 3 jours dans l'eau avec oignons. Fleur et feuilles de glycine, écorce eucalyptus, pince métallique. 

 I can see images hidden in the fabric...
 Je peux voir des images cachées sur le tissu...

Eco-printing - Impression naturelle

Here are some new experiences of dyeing on soya milk mordanted fabrics (cotton, linen, and flannel) and wrapped with an iron blanket. The leaves I used are from sweet gum, birch, and eucalyptus trees from my garden.

Voici quelques nouvelles expériences de teinture avec les tissus mordancés avec du lait de soja (coton, lin et flanelle) et enveloppés avec un tissu déjà trempé dans le 'jus de clous'. Les feuilles utilisées sont du liquidambar, de bouleau et d'eucalyptus de mon jardin.

Even if autumn is already here, I want to continue experimenting with slow dyeing; it'll probably take longer to get any results, but it's all about that, isn't it?

Même si l'automne est déjà là, je veux continuer à expérimenter avec la teinture lente; ça va probablement prendre plus de temps pour obtenir des résultats, mais c'est l'idée, n'est-ce pas?

Eco-printing and backstitch- Impression naturelle et point arrière

The online course “Exploring Texture and Pattern with Sue Stone” is really great! Embroidery lines using back stitch is an excellent method to draw. I'm doing more than one sample each time because is so creative and plenty of possibilities. The group is a beautiful place to share and also being inspired.

Le cours en ligne “Exploring Texture and Pattern with Sue Stone” est vraiment génial! Les lignes de broderie utilisant le point arrière sont une excellente méthode pour dessiner. Je fais plus d'un échantillon à chaque fois, c'est tellement créatif et plein de possibilités. Le groupe est un endroit magnifique pour partager et être inspirée aussi.

I keep doing some eco-printing and natural dyeing, this week I'd tried eucalyptus leaves. I couldn't get any orange or red colors. I made different mordants on different fabrics, but I didn't have the result I saw in books. Must continue trying and learning.

Je continue à faire de l'éco-impression et la teinture naturelle, cette semaine, j'avais essayé avec les feuilles d'eucalyptus. Je n'ai pas pu obtenir de couleurs orange ou rouge. J'ai fait différents mordants sur différents tissus, mais je n'ai pas eu le résultat que j'avais vu dans les livres. Je dois continuer à essayer et à apprendre.

Eco-printing - Impression Naturelle

After some more tries, I finally had some interesting results. I have to learn how to balance the quantity of rust I add to the leaves or bundles because too much rust makes printing become black and I prefer earthly colors.

Après quelques essais supplémentaires, j'ai finalement eu quelques résultats intéressants. Je dois apprendre à équilibrer la quantité de rouille que j'ajoute aux feuilles ou aux 'paquets enveloppés' parce que trop de rouille (jus de clous) rend l'impression noire et je préfère les couleurs ocres. 

 

I think I'll use one of these printing to work on the online course “Exploring Texture and Pattern with Sue Stone”. Embroidery on leaves lines and border could make a nice effect depending on stitch and thread. I'll experiment with these ideas.

Je pense que je vais utiliser une de ces impressions pour travailler dans le cours en ligne “Exploring Texture and Pattern with Sue Stone”("Explorer la texture et le structure avec Sue Stone"). Broder les lignes et le bord des feuilles pourrait faire un bel effet en fonction du point et le fil utilisés. Je vais expérimenter avec ces idées.

Running stitch and more!- Point avant et plus.

The eco-printing experience from last week has not really interesting results. I keep reading and experimenting, there is something about the mordant part of the process that I don't get to manage.

Today, I tried another experience: I made a bundle with the fabric already dyed with tea, and put fresh leaves of maple, bamboo and oak inside, then I added two small metal washers in the water.

Let's see what I'll discover tomorrow!

L'expérience de l'éco-impression de la semaine dernière n'a pas donné des résultats intéressants. Je continue à lire et expérimenter, il y a quelque chose sur la partie 'mordant' du processus que je n'arrive pas à bien gérer.

Aujourd'hui j'ai essayé une autre expérience : j'ai enveloppé des feuilles fraîches d'érable, de bambou et de chêne dans les tissus déjà teint avec du thé  et j'ai ajouté deux petites rondelles métalliques dans l’eau.

Voyons ce que je vais découvrir demain!

Eco-dyeing - Teintures naturelles

The online course is very nice, very international group and making samples is very rewarding. Of course, ideas on upcoming projects are already appearing: Moon and Ocean, with natural fabrics and threads, mainly cotton and linen...

Le cours en ligne est très agréable, le groupe très international et faire des échantillons est très gratifiant. Bien sûr, des idées sur des projets à venir apparaissent déjà : des lunes et des océans, avec des tissus et fils naturels, surtout du coton et du lin...

 At the same time, I'm still working on slow eco-dyeing. Yesterday, after a big thunderstorm, I was able to find in the garden many oak's branches and Sweetgum's leaves. So, I decided to use them on cotton and paper.

First, I dyed the cloth in tea, then a quick passage in a ' rust juice ' (vinegar and rust metals) and I printed the leaves by tapping with a small hammer.

En même temps, je travaille toujours avec l'éco-teinture lente. Hier, après un grand orage, j'ai pu trouver dans le jardin de nombreuses branches de chêne, et feuilles de Liquidambar. Donc, j'ai décidé de les utiliser sur du coton et du papier.

Tout d'abord, j'ai teinté le tissu dans une casserole de thé, puis un passage rapide dans un 'jus de clous' (vinaigre et métaux qui rouillent ) et j'ai imprimé des feuilles en tapant avec un petit marteau.

J'ai enveloppé le tissu et le papier autour des feuilles et je les ouvrirai ce week end...
