Prayer and friendship Quilt

 

A traditional quilt pattern: Star of Bethlehem, I made this quilt for two friends. Pieced and quilted by hand, all fabrics are from my stash. It makes 96cm x 96cm, and my friends received  their gift a few days ago.

"Ulu", Hawaiian pattern

Ulu, Hawaiian pattern.

I decided to try a new style and a Hawaiian applique quilt is a challenge for me. I'm not really good at applique, so I'll try with a small pattern.
I started reading about traditional Hawaiian quilts, and this is the first pattern a beginner has to start with: Ulu, or Breadfruit.

I did a little research, and finally, I made a drawing inspired by Pinterest pattern pictures and the real tree pictures.

“Amish Squares”

“Amish Squares”. Left Hand Quilt (started in September 2019)

I finished the top yesterday (11/6/2020), found the backing in my stash box, and decided to make the old way binding: bringing the back to the top. Now, it's in line for hand quilting.

New beginnings. The Hexathon quilt is basted and it's waiting for cooler weather to be quilted.

I've been taught that you need 3 projects in different stages: thinking a quilt, piecing another one, and quilting a 3rd. 

So, I went to my list of « quilts I want to make », and I decided to go for the Bear's Paw pattern.

How to make it without buying fabrics? (I have enough in my shelves) Going out of my 'blue' comfort zone, I've chosen 'green'. I have no green quilts, so 'why not'. 

Springtime, lockdown is over (here), and bears are going outside.

Postage Stamps Quilt: "The Quilt Shop" - Quilt Timbres Poste

I finished the top of the "Postage Stamps" quilt. With a small border, the finished top measures 40'' x 48'' (102 cm x 122 cm). I used a small piece of cloth, donated by a woman who came to our guest rooms in 2011, and I cut the part that shows a sign 'The Quilt Shop,' so this will be the name of the quilt.

J'ai fini le top du quilt “Timbres Poste”. Avec une petite bordure, le top fini mesure 40'' x 48'' (102 cm x 122 cm). J'ai utilisé un petit morceau de tissu, donné par une femme qui est venue à nos chambres d'hôtes en 2011, et j'ai coupé la partie qui montre le petit panneau “The Quilt Shop”; voilà, ce sera le nom du quilt.

Amish Squares, non-dominant-hand quilt

January 2020

The top of the "Postage Stamps" quilt is almost finished, so I'm back to the "Amish Squares" top. I thought I'd start from the center and make a "spiral" to the right, taking the pairs of squares at random.

Finally, I made rows. I pinned on the foam board; then I took some pictures to have the light and dark colors in balance.
Ready to start sewing the rows!

Le haut du quilt "Timbres Poste" est presque terminé, alors, je reprends le top "Amish Squares". Je pensais commencer à partir du centre et faire une «spirale» vers la droite, en prenant les paires de carrés au hasard.

Finalement, j’ai fait des rangées. J’ai épinglé sur la planche en mousse, puis j’ai pris quelques photos pour avoir les couleurs claires et sombres en équilibre.
Prêt à commencer à coudre les rangs!

At some point, I decided to cut more squares, and now I have almost finished the top. With a thin border, it'll be 39'' x 47'' ( 100 cm x 120 cm)

Amish Squares - Carrés Amish

Patchwork with Left Hand (September 2019)

I'm starting to sew the samples from Kona cotton fabric (bought in 2012 in Santa Marie aux Mines)

Each square sewed to a white square (old sheet).

Cut with scissors for left-handed, and cutter on the 'left-hand' position.

Chaque carré cousu à un carré blanc (vieux drap).

Coupé avec des ciseaux pour gaucher, et cutter sur le position 'main gauche'.

I have all my pairs sewn. I don't know yet how to organized the quilt: by color, or just "as I take them from the bag." I have 218 pairs.

J'ai toutes mes paires cousues. Je ne sais pas encore comment organiser le quilt: par couleur, ou tout simplement "comme je les prends dans le sac." J'ai 218 paires.

Double Wedding Ring Quilt - Quilt Double Anneaux de Mariage

With all the pictures of Double Wedding Ring Quilts for the week's theme on a Facebook group, I started thinking, "what if I try that?" I always thought it's a Big Big Project, and I was not sure if I'd be able to do it. Certainly, I won't make a queen size quilt, but I'd give it a try! Big Project 2020?

All by hand, so I think I'll make 6 blocks, and see... I'm using my stash of blues.

I found a book with a good size: 22” (58cm)

Here the pictures of fabric choice, templates and cutting, and 1st ring. 

Avec toutes les photos de Quilt Double Anneaux de Mariage pour le thème de la semaine sur un groupe Facebook, j'ai commencé à penser, "Et si j'essaie ça?" J'ai toujours pensé que c'était un grand projet, et je n'étais pas sûre d'être en mesure de le faire. Certes, je ne vais pas faire un grand couvre lit, mais je vais essayer! Grand projet 2020?
Je fais tout à la main, donc je pense que je vais faire 6 blocs, et voir ... J'utilise ma réserve de bleus.
J'ai trouvé un livre avec une bonne taille: 22" (58 cm)

Hello, on June 12th, I showed the first little squares for my project " Postage Stamps." Yesterday, I finished cutting from my stash (I have 2 or 3 squares from each fabric): 1138 squares 1,5" x 1,5" (will be 1" x 1" finished). I can make 33 rows by 34,( meaning 82 cm x 85 cm) not big, but I'll make at least one border. Now, I have to decide how to organize colors, or not organize them at all, and just pick up squares haphazardly...

Bonjour, le 12 juin, j'ai montré les premiers petits carrés pour mon projet « Timbres-poste .» Hier, j'ai fini de couper mes carrés (j'ai 2 ou 3 carrés de chaque tissu) : 1138 carrés; 3cm x 3cm (1,5" x 1,5") (terminés il seront: 1,5 cm x 1,5 cm (1" x 1"). Je peux faire 33 lignes par 34, (ce qui signifie 82 cm x 85 cm) pas très grand, mais je vais fair e au moins une bordure. Maintenant, je dois décider comment organiser les couleurs, ou ne pas les organiser du tout, et il suffit de prendre des carrés au hasard ...

I'm working on my "Postage Stamps," sewing by pairs, just by picking up squares from the 3 bags (I separated colors: dark, middle, and light).

It's relaxing and goes faster than I thought it would.

Je travaille sur mon« Timbres-poste .» Couture par paires, juste en prenant des carrés des 3 sacs (j'ai séparé les couleurs: sombre, moyen et léger).

C'est relaxant et va plus vite que je pensais.

I finished putting pairs together. When I first posted my project, some people told me to go by pairs and then make squares of four. I'll try that.

J'ai fini de coudre les paires ensemble. Quand j'ai posté mon projet, certaines personnes m'ont dit d'aller par paires et ensuite faire des carrés de quatre. Je vais essayer ça.
